Business Information Technology & Business Communications (Special Purpose Award, Level 6)

Aims

On completion of this programme, the graduate will be capable of effectively using essential office information technology software including word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications in the management and control of organisations, particularly the Marketing & Management functions. Learners will also develop the ability to communicate effectively in business settings and gain effective presentation skills. Learners will develop an understanding of group dynamics and working within a group context.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must satisfy a minimum stage 1 entry requirement of Grade 06/H7 or higher at Ordinary Level in five Leaving Certificate Subjects, or equivalent.

Special Case Registrations: Prospective participants who do not meet the entry requirements for the programme detailed above, but who may qualify for admission by meeting certain other equivalent criteria, including workplace experience, should apply to the Admissions or International Office for consideration.

Content

Information Technology & Office Applications

The aim of this module is for learners to develop an understanding of the role and application of information technology in the management and control of organisations, particularly the Marketing & Management functions. Learners will also develop the ability to utilise the fundamental features of office technology, such as word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications.

Business Communications

This purpose of this module is to enable learners to communicate effectively in business settings and gain effective presentation skills. Learners will develop an understanding group dynamics and working within a group context.

Assessment/Examinations

This programme is assessed through a range of continuous assessments including theoretical lectures combined with in‑class discussions and case studies with an emphasis on the practical application of materials covered. Computer labs, online quizzes and practical assessments will also form part of the strategy.
