Statistical Process Control (City & Guilds)

Programme Aims:

The purpose of this unit is to enable learners to develop an understanding of Statistical Process Control and the industrial application of statistical tools and methodology to achieve process control, the acceptability of product quality and determine process capability. The unit will extend the learner’s knowledge and understanding in an area closely related to Quality Assurance and Quality Control and give the opportunity to apply and develop previously acquired knowledge of mathematical statistics.
At the end of this module the learner will:

  • understand how Statistical Process Control (SPC) is used as a quality control technique
  • understand the use of statistical techniques in consumer and producer sampling schemes
  • be able to apply statistical techniques to sampling plans
  • understand how to determine manufacturing process capabilities
  • be able to determine process capabilities


Entry Requirement

a) International City and Guilds Certificate award (2565) or,
b) National Craft Certificate in the following trades: Aircraft Mechanic, Electrician, Fitter, Heavy Vehicle
Mechanic, Toolmaker, Metal Fabrication, Motor Mechanic or equivalent or,
c) National Certificate in Engineering or,
d) National Certificate in Technology or,
e) Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Certified Manufacturing Technologist Level
