Industrial Project (Manufacturing Technology) (Level 7)

Programme Aims:

To provide the learner with the opportunity to develop their independent leadership and project management skills through the study, analysis and resolution of a work-based problem:
Having successfully completed this module, the learner will be able to:
Select and research a topic.
Specify a problem in terms of project objectives and outcomes.
Plan, undertake and manage a project within a specified timeframe using limited resources.
Apply the appropriate tools, methods, techniques and technologies in the solution of the problem and the management of the project.
Make comprehensive recommendations if further work is necessary on the project or to improve the solution.
Write a project report on the specification, conduct and findings of the project, and make a final presentation on project progress and conclusions.

Entry Requirement

Entry is restricted to registered students on the Bachelor of Engineering in Manufacturing Technology. Approved registrations for the project are taken throughout the year and are available from the Department of Flexible Learning


The final assessment will be by a panel of academic staff. The marks will be divided into 20% for the presentations and 80% for the written reports. It is necessary to pass both elements to achieve an award in the module.


24 weeks.
Deliverables include an Outline Report, Final Report and Presentation.
