Aims

This unit enables the candidate to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully machine by Computer Numerical Control (CNC).
At the end of this module the learner will:
• be able to produce CNC part-programs using simulation software
• be able to set-up CNC machine tools
• be able to produce parts using CNC machine tools
• be able to reinstate the work area

Entry Requirement

Completed Leaving Certificate or Equivalent.
Experience in a manufacturing environment using Lathes and Mills desirable.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

Content

This course is primarily focused on the programming of CNC machines. Students will programme using ISO G-Codes for milling and turning and a basic introduction to Siemens conversational Milling programming. Preparation of the machine, Selection and the preparing of the required methods of work holding, Selection and the correct mounting of tooling, Calculation of Speeds and Feeds are key components of this course.
