CPC – Certificate in Professional Competence in Road Transport Operations Management

Aims

The aim of this programme is to enhance the learner’s existing knowledge of the most important aspects of transport and fleet operations management. The programme has been designed in line with the requirements of the Chartered Institute of Transport Logistics (CILT) and will prepare the student for taking the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) exam and therefore be certified by the Charted Institute of Transport Logistics as being competent in this area.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements will normally be a pass in six Leaving Certificate subjects including Mathematics or an equivalent qualification. Equivalence may be demonstrated by an appropriate qualification and significant relevant experience. Applicants who do not meet these requirements but who are aged 23 and over will be considered for entry on the basis of a written application and if appropriate an interview process. Content

The programme content is in line with the requirements as set out by CILT. It covers the essential requirements for those wishing to set up a transport business. Topics covered include:

• Setting up Road Passenger Transport Business
• Access to the Road Transport Market
• Transport Operations Management
• Financial Management
• Technical Standards
• Civil, Commercial & Social Legislation
• Conventions and Documentation
• Route Planning and Road Safety

Assessment/Examinations

Students can complete a range of LIT assessments and be provided with a Single Subject Certificate for the module. These LIT assessments include a continuous assessment plus a written examination. Students are also eligible to register for and sit the CILT CPC Examination. Details of these examinations are provided by the CILT at www.cilt.ie. Normally these examinations are held in January, June and September each year. Students pay a separate CILT registration fee. Full details are available on www.cilt.ie

Qualification

Single Subject Certificate (Level 7, 10 Credits).
